Chobham - Life Savers Training
On 22 June 2016 Chobham Academy took part in Mission: CPR, a mission to create a nation of lifesavers. Over the course of the day the school ran multiple 30-minute CPR training sessions, putting the power to save local lives in the hands of its teenagers.
The pupils learned child and adult CPR, how to put a casualty in the recovery position and how to use a defibrillator. Currently only 1 in 10 people survive an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest but this school, and others who also took part across the country, aim to change that. Their CPR training could mean the difference between life and death for any of the 30,000 people who have a cardiac arrest every year.
Tia Cameron said, “Taking part the CPR training was an amazing experience. I now feel that I could act in an emergency and feel proud to have taken part in such an important national event.”
Miss Dutch said, “Raising awareness of heart disease and seeing our teenagers learning such an important life skill, chimed with so many aspects of the curriculum that we hope to make Mission: CPR a regular event at our school.”
The British Heart Foundation provided all secondary schools taking part in Mission: CPR with a free state-of-the art CPR training kit that can be used again and again.
