Welcome to the Chobham Academy website. My name is Michael Whitworth and I am privileged to be the Principal at Chobham.
Chobham is a diverse and vibrant community where every day brings something different and exciting. We have a passion for learning and everyone, both students and members of staff, is curious to find out more about the world around them and to become ever better at what they do.
The quality of our relationships with others and how we conduct ourselves as individuals are very important themes for us. We try to base our outlook and behaviour upon the Chobham values of empathy, curiosity, respect, excellence, inclusion and honesty. All members of the school community subscribe to these values and we do our best to follow them. We have clear and well understood school systems and expectations, however within this structure young people are expected to use their initiative and show responsibility for their actions.
Our key reason for being here is learning. We look at this in two main ways:
- Providing our students with a broad and stimulating academic experience through a curriculum which is interesting, challenging and relevant to their needs, experiences and aspirations. We understand the importance of academic achievement and excellent examination outcomes for our students, however this is coupled with our commitment to helping them learn as much as possible about their world and how it works. As well as learning through the curriculum at school we actively encourage our students to develop their own interests and skills
- Giving our students a range of life experiences which will help them to thrive in the world outside and beyond school. This includes developing social skills, leadership skills and the ability to thrive in new environments and as independent learners. Our house system and extensive programme of extra-curricular activities help us to achieve this aim.
We want our students to be active citizens at the centre of their communities and to be able to take advantage of the opportunities presented to them in the twenty first century world. We also want them to enjoy their time at Chobham and to feel happy, secure, successful and recognised by others at school. At Chobham all of our students are seen as individuals and we want all of them to be proud of their own uniqueness.
You will be very welcome at Chobham should you wish to visit the school in person. In the meantime we hope you find this website, interesting, useful and inspiring.
With best wishes.
